Kilworth GAA Club Notes 18 June 2026

INTERMEDIATE HURLERS CONTINUE UNBEATEN RUN
Kilworth’s intermediate hurlers maintained their unbeaten run last Thursday evening, June 11th, with a convincing win over Mallow at home in the Red FM sponsored Division 4 Hurling League. Entering this penultimate round clash significantly depleted, Kilworth, missing seven players through injury and unavailability, nonetheless delivered a strong and composed performance. Playing with the benefit of a strong breeze in the opening half, Kilworth initially played tit-for-tat hurling with their opponent’s in the opening quarter before they quickly established control. Their dominance was rewarded after sixteen minutes of play when goalkeeper Killian Heggtveit delivered a long clearance into the square, where Olann McCarthy-O’Donoghue reacted quickest to pull on the sliotar along the ground and find the back of the net helping Kilworth open up a two-point lead and set the tone for this contest. Kilworth continued to dictate proceedings throughout the remaining first half, combining accurate shooting with solid defensive work to limit Mallow’s opportunities and by the interval, they had built up a commanding seven-point advantage. Half time score; Kilworth 1-12, Mallow 0-08.
Mallow made a determined push upon the restart and were back within two points just six minutes into the second half following a well-taken goal, however, Kilworth responded in impressive fashion, settling back into their rhythm and reasserted control. Centre forward Michael Sheehan once again proved particularly influential, contributing heavily from both play and placed balls, while Kilworth’s work rate and discipline ensured they kept Mallow at arm’s length for the remainder of the game. Despite a spirited second-half display from the visitors, who registered nine points of their overall tally from placed balls, Kilworth’s consistency saw them pull away once more and at the full-time whistle, Kilworth were comfortable nine-point winners, with this victory also ending Mallow’s hopes of reaching the league final. Full time score; Kilworth 1-23, Mallow 1-14. Referee; Ciarán Murphy, Glanworth.

Kilworth GAA Club Notes 11 June 2026

JUNIOR FOOTBALLERS CLAIM LEAGUE TITLE
Last week, on Tuesday evening, June 02nd, Kilworth travelled to Ballyhooly to contest near neighbours Grange in the final of the Avondhu division three football league. Credit must be given to Ballyhooly GAA, who presented both the venue and pitch in superb condition, with a pristine, carpet-like playing surface and excellent pitch markings providing the perfect stage for this occasion.
Kilworth opened the scoring in this lively encounter in the sixth minute of play when Olann McCarthy-O’Donoghue intercepted a Grange pass along the Kilworth half-back line before embarking on a remarkable 60-yard solo run and finishing confidently between the uprights. Two minutes later, corner forward Brian Sheehan doubled Kilworth’s lead with an excellent left-footed score before Ryan Jordan added a well-taken 45” in the thirteenth minute to extend the advantage to three points. Olann continued his impressive start by registering his second point from play just a minute later, pushing Kilworth further ahead before Grange opened their account on the quarter hour mark with a neatly converted placed ball. Two pointed frees from Brian Sheehan stretched Kilworth’s back lead to four, however, Grange responded strongly, with their goalkeeper, who proved clinical from distance, converting two two-point frees in succession to bring the sides back on level terms. As the half drew to a close, Jamie Sheehan restored Kilworth’s lead with a well-worked point from play to leave just a single point separating the teams in what was an entertaining and closely contested opening half. Half time score; Kilworth 0-07, Grange 0-06.
Upon the restart, Kilworth quickly asserted their authority as Brian Sheehan opened the second half scoring with another well struck pointed free, before Sean Murphy and Liam Óg Hegarty also added their names to the scoresheet to further extend Kilworth’s lead. Grange, playing in their distinctive saffron and white colours, responded with a point from play, but Kilworth maintained control with further scores from substitute Mark Carey, the ever-reliable Brian Sheehan, and Liam Óg Hegarty pushing Kilworth six points clear with just nine minutes remaining. Both sides exchanged two points apiece in the closing stages, from a mixture of play and placed balls, with Grange adding a final converted free three minutes into injury time. Despite that late consolation score, Kilworth remained comfortable and in control throughout the closing period and at the final whistle, blown by referee Denis Motherway, Kilworth were worthy and convincing winners, thanks to a disciplined and efficient second half display. Full time score; Kilworth 0-15, Grange 0-10.
Following the game John O’Donovan, secretary of the Avondhu GAA board, firstly presented Kilworth’s wing back Sean Murphy with his well-deserved Man-Of-The-Match award before presenting the league trophy to the victorious Kilworth captain Michael Gowen. In his acceptance speech, Michael thanked Ballyhooly GAA for the excellent condition of the venue and playing surface, referee Denis Motherway and his officials for officiating the contest, the Kilworth players and management team of Tim, Paul, Sean, and Fergus, team medic Deirdre, as well as the club’s loyal sponsors and supporters. He also acknowledged Grange for their sporting contribution to an enjoyable and competitive final whilst whishing them the very best of luck in their confined county championship campaign.

INTERMEDIATE HURLERS QUALIFY FOR LEAGUE FINAL
Last Friday evening, May 29th, Kilworth welcomed Kildorrery to Moorepark for their seventh-round clash in the Red FM sponsored Division 4 Hurling League. Kilworth got off to a strong start in what proved to be a high-scoring encounter, with a remarkable total of 45 scores in total registered. Michael Sheehan, who delivered a man-of-the-match performance with an outstanding tally of ten points from play, opened the scoring with a fine point after latching onto a well-timed pass from defender Kieran Lane. Just two minutes later, midfielder Jeremy Saich struck the game’s opening goal following an excellent team move, giving Kilworth a three-point advantage. By the quarter-hour mark, Kildorrery had narrowed the gap to just a single point, but Kilworth maintained control thanks to the accurate free-taking of Liam Óg Hegarty and Sheehan’s continued influence at centre-forward. Noel McNamara also added his initials to the scoresheet with two well-taken points, before goalkeeper Killian Heggtveit capped off the first half with a superb long-range placed ball that sailed between the uprights moments before the half time whistle sounded. Half time score; Kilworth 1-14, Kildorrery 1-07.
Upon the restart, Kildorrery immediately reduced Kilworth’s lead to five points with two well-struck placed balls. Kilworth, however, responded confidently, and quickly settled back into their rhythm with scores from Liam Óg Hegarty, Michael Sheehan, and Jamie Sheehan extending their advantage to nine points by the three-quarter mark. As the game entered the final quarter, Kilworth continued to assert their dominance, adding further points through Liam Óg and Jamie Sheehan, while centre-back Pierce Riordan also made his mark on the scoreboard. Although Kildorrery had the final say in this contest with a late score, Kilworth were comfortable and deserving winners, having effectively doubled their points tally in the second half. This result sees Kilworth maintain their unbeaten run this season, securing a place in the league final with two games still to play, as well as confirming promotion to Division 3 for next season. Full time score; Kilworth 1-28, Kildorrery 1-15. Referee; Denis Motherway, Ballygiblin.
Team and scorers: Killian Heggtveit 0-01 (1-f), Gearoid Carey, Kieran Lane, Austin O’Hara, Sean Óg Kenneally, Pierce Riordan 0-01, David Twomey, Michael Gowen, Jeremy Saich 1-00, Jamie Sheehan 0-02, Michael Sheehan 0-10, Liam Óg Hegarty 0-12 (10-f), Noel McNamara 0-02, William Condon, & Olann McCarthy-O’Donoghue. POSITIVE FINISH TO JUNIOR HURLING LEAGUE CAMPAIGN
Last week, on Tuesday evening May 26th, our junior hurlers faced Fermoy at home in their final fixture of the Avondhu Division 2 Hurling League. In what proved to be an entertaining contest, Fermoy appeared the stronger side for much of the game, however, Kilworth showed great resilience to stay within striking distance of their near neighbours throughout. A crucial moment came just before half-time when corner forward Cormac Donnellan struck a 21-yard free which found the back of the net, giving Kilworth a narrow 1-09 to 0-11 lead at the break. With both sides relying heavily on placed balls for scores, Kilworth maintained their composure and remained firmly in contention as the game progressed. However, in a dramatic finish, Kilworth snatched victory in the closing minutes when substitute Rory Gill’s late effort took a fortunate bounce into the Fermoy net, securing an important two-point win and Division 2 league status for the 2027 season. Full time score; Kilworth 2-17, Fermoy 0-21. Referee; David Twomey, Shanballymore.
Team: Sean Keane, Gearoid Carey, Conor White, Kieran Twomey, Ronan Fenton, Sean Óg Kenneally, Sean Murphy, Michael O’Callaghan, Jason McCarthy, Mark Carey, Brian Tobin, Brian Casey, Anthony Sheehan, Thomas Twomey, & Cormac Donnellan. Kilworth GAA Club Notes 28 May 2026

INTERMEDIATE HURLERS MAKE IT SIX FROM SIX
As the saying goes, goals win matches, and that proved true for Kilworth’s intermediate hurlers last Saturday evening, May 23rd, when they welcomed fellow divisional side Ballyhea to Moorepark for their sixth-round clash in the Red FM sponsored Division 4 Hurling League. In a game that went right down to the wire, Kilworth secured a hard-earned victory against a determined Ballyhea side that threw everything at them in the final quarter. However, some fine solid defending led from the back by veteran Kieran Lane kept the Magpies at bay when it mattered most. Playing with the advantage of a strong breeze in the opening half, Kilworth made a bright start, with Brian Sheehan opening the scoring in what quickly developed into a fiercely contested encounter, and by the 21st minute of play, Kilworth had established a five-point lead, which was helped by a superbly taken goal from full forward Jamie Sheehan. Both sides then traded further scores from both play and placed balls as the half progressed, but Kilworth maintained their advantage to go in at the water break with a six-point lead. Half time score; Kilworth 1-11, Ballyhea 0-08.
Kilworth hit the ground running upon the restart and within six minutes they had extended their lead to ten points, thanks to another clinical goal from the ever-dangerous Jamie Sheehan. Ballyhea, however, weren’t going down without a fight and with ten minutes of play remaining had reduced Kilworth’s lead to a mere four points. However, Kilworth responded in style when substitute Olann McCarthy-O’Donoghue found the net with a beautifully struck goal which was promptly reflected on the new electronic scoreboard operated by Pa Browne almost before the green flag was raised! Ballyhea once again refused to admit defeat and immediately fired over five consecutive points to leave just two points between the sides with seconds remaining. Kilworth however had the final say, as Jamie Sheehan stepped up and split the posts five minutes into stoppage time to seal the victory for Kilworth in what was their first home game of the year. Full time score; Kilworth 3-17, Ballyhea 1-20. Referee; Pa Beausang – Midleton.
Team and scorers: Killian Heggtveitt, Austin O’Hara, Kieran Lane, Michael Gowen, Pierce Riordan, Luke Carey, David Twomey, Ryan Jordan 0-01, Jeremy Saich 0-01, Michael Sheehan, Eoin Carey 0-07 (3-f), Liam Óg Hegarty 0-05 (5-f), Noel McNamara, Jamie Sheehan 2-02, & Brian Sheehan 0-01. THROWBACK THURSDAY
Match Report – Rathcormac Football Tournament Final, Sunday July 14th, 1889
On Sunday the final football tie (Kilworth 1st v Rathcormac 1st) in connection with the above tournament was played off under most favorable circumstances – the turf, weather, and arrangements being A1. The match, which was of the most exciting character, was witnessed by a large assemblage of admirers, who, indeed, were well repaid by the splendid display of athletic prowess that was exhibited on both sides. From the reputation of both teams and from their appearance when lining up it was expected that the struggle for victory would be a sharp one. Mr. T Casey, hon. secretary Fermoy GAA, after much pressure, consented to act as referee and gave entire satisfaction.
Details; Kilworth won the toss and elected to play with the breeze at their backs. The leather having been thrown up play remained neutral for about five minutes when Rathcormac by a rush placed a point to their credit. This was soon non-plussed by a gallant sweep of the visitors which resulted in a goal, quickly followed by a point. Rathcormac now playing in defense had to pay the penalty of a “free” which resulted in another point. Thus, play stood until half time was called.
On changing sides, hostile play ensued when after about ten minutes Rathcormac, by a forty-yard kick, scored a point. Soon after they gained another forty-yard kick by which they strove hard to gain a goal. Kilworth, however, were equal to the occasion, and after a hard struggle Rathcormac scored a point. On kick out Rathcormac placed another point to their score, when Kilworth by a rush invaded their opponent’s ground, but nothing resulted and at the time being called play stood at Kilworth 1 goal and 2 points, Rathcormac 4 points, thus leaving the visitors the winners of a handsome set of medals.

Kilworth GAA Club Notes 21 May 2026

SUCCESSFUL OFFICIAL OPENING
Last Saturday afternoon, May 16th, Kilworth GAA Club proudly welcomed An tUachtarán Cumann Lúthchleas Gael, Jarlath Burns, along with distinguished guests, club members, and the wider community, for the official opening of the new clubhouse, community gym, and upgraded pitch facilities. With the club approaching its centenary in the coming years, this occasion marked a significant milestone in Kilworth’s history. It was a truly memorable and celebrated day, filled with pride, laughter, and a strong sense of community spirit for all in attendance.
Proceedings began with a tour of the club grounds led by club officials, where the 41st President of the GAA and invited guests were met with a vibrant atmosphere. Both pitches were a hive of activity, with young players from the juvenile, camogie, and LGFA clubs participating in organised games, showcasing all three club’s thriving underage structures. Following official photographs, An tUachtarán was given a guided tour of the impressive new clubhouse and fully equipped community gym, which was constructed by local building firm, KDC Ltd. After the blessing of the new facilities by Fr. Eamonn Roche and Rev. Clodagh Yambasu he then performed the official ribbon-cutting ceremony, formally opening the club’s new and impressive state-of-the-art facilities.
The formal proceedings then continued from the new balcony with the speeches delivered overlooking the large, assembled crowd. Club Irish and Cultural Officer Joe Aherne acted as master of ceremonies, opening the event before inviting a number of speakers to address those present. These included Cllr. Frank O’Flynn, who was deputising for the Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr. Mary Linehan Foley, followed by Club Chairperson Tony Sheehan, and finally An tUachtarán Jarlath Burns who in his address spoke of his honour and privilege to attend such an important occasion. He paid tribute to the dedication and commitment of the club members who planned, executed, and delivered this ambitious development, describing Kilworth as a club defined by pride, vision, and ambition. He mentioned Cill Uird and its history and also highlighted the importance of GAA clubs as the cornerstone of the Association and praised Kilworth for creating a lasting legacy for future generations. Jarlath also noted his admiration for the close proximity and cooperation of all the local sporting organisations and national school within the area, describing it as a model of community collaboration.
In a lighter moment, he remarked that when his term as President concludes next February, he looks forward to revisiting clubs across the country where plaques bearing his name have been unveiled, with Kilworth now becoming one of them. The event then concluded with the unveiling of a commemorative plaque on the clubhouse wall, bringing to a close a thoroughly enjoyable and historic afternoon for all in attendance.

INTERMEDIATE HURLERS CONTINUE WINNING RUN
Last Sunday morning, May 17th, Kilworth’s intermediate hurlers travelled to Watergrasshill for their fifth-round clash in the Red FM sponsored Division 4 Hurling League. Jeremy Saich opened the scoring in this lively encounter with a point from a subline sideline cut after which Kilworth quickly built momentum and four minutes of play later full forward Jamie Sheehan found the net to stretch their lead to three points. Kilworth suffered a setback in the thirteenth minute when they were reduced to 14 players, but to their credit they showed great resilience and battled on, maintaining their advantage for the remainder of the half to go in at the water break leading by three points. Half time score; Kilworth 1-10, Watergrasshill 0-10.
A fiercely contested second half followed, with both sides trading scores and producing some excellent passages of play to keep the scoreboard ticking over. The hosts, to their credit kept battling and a minute into stoppage time, had cut the deficit to just a mere point between the sides. However, a decisive moment soon followed as club veteran Noel McNamara struck a late goal to secure a fifth straight victory for Kilworth, as they held on for a hard-earned two point win. Full time score; Kilworth 2-19, Watergrasshill 0-23.

CLG Chill Uird – Gaisce déanta

Uachtarán CLG, Jarlath Burns, le cuairt a thabhairt ar CLG Chill Uird Dé Sathairn seo.

Tá cuireadh tugtha ag CLG Chill Uird do gach ball agus don phobal i gcoitinne a bheith leo chun an clubtheach nua, giomnáisiam pobail agus áiseanna páirce uasghrádaithe a oscailt go hoifigiúil.

Beidh an ceiliúradh ar siúl Dé Sathairn an 16 Bealtaine, ó 2pm go 5pm ag an gclub, agus is mór an onóir don chlub go mbeidh Uachtarán CLG, Iarlaith Ó Broin, mar aon le haíonna mór le rá eile, ina dteannta chun an searmanas oscailte oifigiúil a cheiliúradh.

Is ionann forbairt na n-áiseanna seo agus cloch mhíle mhór don chlub agus don phobal i gcoitinne. Is léiriú é ar an dúthracht, ar an obair chrua agus ar an tiomantas a léirigh an oiread sin daoine le blianta beaga anuas, agus tá áthas ar choiste an chlub an éacht seo a cheiliúradh le gach duine a chabhraigh agus a thacaigh lena bhfís ar an mbealach.

Cuimsíonn CLG Chill Uird, club beag bródúil tuaithe atá suite ó thuaidh ó Mhainistir Fhear Maí i gContae Chorcaí, Peil, Iomáint, Peil na mBan, Camógaíocht agus Liathróid Láimhe. Ní ar an bpáirc imeartha amháin a bhíonn an club gafa ach oiread. Glacann siad páirt ghníomhach i gcomórtais Scór chomh maith agus tá traidisiún láidir ó thaobh na Gaeilge de sa chlub.

Le deich mbliana anuas, tá muintir Chill Uird ag cur na Gaeilge i lár an aonaigh. Tá bonn airgid bainte amach ag an gclub ó Fhondúireacht Sheosaimh Mhic Dhonncha mar aitheantas ar an obair leanúnach atá ar bun acu. Cuireann siad ranganna ar siúl do mhic léinn na hArdteistiméireachta agus tá an Ghaeilge feiceálach timpeall an chlub, agus tuigeann na baill an nasc tábhachtach idir ár dteanga agus ár gcluichí.

Seo club ceannródaíoch atá ar an bhfód ó 1928 i leith – club atá an-oscailte do chách agus a bhfuil mana CLG “Tá Áit Dúinn Uilig Ann” go smior ann.

Joe Ó hEachteirn, Oifigeach Gaeilge an chlub:
“Táimid an-mhórálach as an méid atá bainte amach againn mar chlub ó thaobh na Gaeilge de. Tá súil againn a bheith in ann misneach a thabhairt do chlubanna eile lasmuigh den Ghaeltacht atá ar aistear teanga leis an bhFondúireacht. Ná bí buartha faoi – is féidir é a dhéanamh. Tá tacaíocht ar fáil.”

“I ráiteas misin Chumann Lúthchleas Gael, deirtear go bhfuil an Cumann pobalbhunaithe agus gur eagraíocht dheonach í a chuireann chun cinn cluichí Gaelacha, cultúr agus rannpháirtíocht saoil.

Tá CLG Chill Uird ag croílár an phobail seo agus tá an-chuid daoine páirteach sa chlub i ngach gné. Sampla de seo ná nuair atá ag éirí go maith le foirne sa chlub, is féidir é a bhrath go mór sa sráidbhaile agus bíonn an áit beo.

Cruthaíonn an club seo cairdeas fadsaoil agus tá traidisiún láidir de réanna clainne ag imirt ár gcluichí náisiúnta anseo i gCill Uird ó bunaíodh an club.

Cuirimid caighdeán ard cóitseála ar fáil i dtimpeallacht atá slán sábháilte agus le háiseanna atá ar ardchaighdeán chomh maith.”

Cuirfear fáilte roimh Uachtarán CLG, Iarlaith Ó Broin, trí mheán na Gaeilge ar an Satharn agus beidh deis iontach ag pobal na háite na háiseanna nua a fheiceáil, teacht le chéile mar chlub agus mar phobal, agus an chloch mhíle thábhachtach seo a cheiliúradh, agus aitheantas á thabhairt don tacaíocht luachmhar atá faighte ag an gclub.

Beidh fáilte roimh chách.

Kilworth GAA will host a major community celebration this Saturday, 16 May, from 2pm to 5pm, to officially open their new clubhouse, community gym, and upgraded pitch facilities. The club is deeply honoured that Uachtarán CLG, Jarlath Burns, will attend and lead the official opening ceremony, along with other distinguished guests.

The development marks a significant milestone for the club and the wider community, reflecting years of dedication, volunteer effort, and shared vision.

Kilworth GAA is a proud rural club north of Fermoy, fielding teams in hurling, football, ladies football, camogie, and handball. The club is also very active in Scór and has a strong commitment to the Irish language. Over the past decade, they have placed Irish at the heart of club life, earning a Silver Medal from Fondúireacht Sheosaimh Mhic Dhonncha for their ongoing language-promotion work. Irish classes for Leaving Cert students and visible use of the language around the club are part of this effort.

Club Oifigeach Gaeilge, Joe Ó hEachteirn, expresses pride in their achievements and encourages other non-Gaeltacht clubs to take similar steps, emphasising that support is available.

The article highlights Kilworth GAA as a community-centred, inclusive club since 1928, living out the GAA mission of promoting games, culture, and lifelong participation. Success on the field lifts the whole village, and generations of families have represented the club. High-quality coaching and safe, modern facilities are central to their ethos.

On Saturday, the Uachtarán will be welcomed through Irish, and the event will give the community a chance to come together, view the new facilities, and celebrate this important milestone.

All are welcome.

Kilworth GAA Club Notes 07 May 2026

INTERMEDIATE HURLERS MAKE IT FOUR FROM FOUR
Last Tuesday evening, April 28th, Kilworth’s intermediate hurlers travelled to Cloughduv for their third-round clash in the Red FM sponsored Division 4 Hurling League. The home side, donning green and gold, opening the scoring in what proved to be a high scoring encounter and held the advantage until the fifteen minute mark when Kilworth responded in style with wing forward Liam Óg Hegarty finding the net to bring the sides level. A closely contested ten minute spell followed with both teams trading scores before Kilworth edged ahead with two points from Liam Óg and Brian Sheehan respectively before the break. Half-time score: Kilworth 1-09, Cloughduv 0-10.
Kilworth carried their momentum into the second half, stretching their lead to three points early on and maintaining control for much of the next twenty minutes. However, a dramatic finale was to unfold as Cloughduv battled back into contention and drew level on the sixty-minute mark with their first goal of the evening. Kilworth, however, to their credit, showed great resilience when it mattered most and after a long-range free taken from Eoin Carey struck the post, Noel McNamara reacted quickest to bury the rebound into the net two minutes into stoppage time. A follow-up point from Jamie Sheehan then sealed the victory, giving Kilworth a deserving four-point win. While it may have been a slightly rusty performance, it was a vital outing to shake off the cobwebs after a lengthy break between games and a challenging past week for all involved. Full time score: Kilworth 2-19, Cloughduv 1-18.
Team and scorers: Killian Heggtveitt, Gearoid Carey, Kieran Lane, Michael Gowen, Sean Óg Kenneally, Luke Carey, David Twomey, Leo Coffey, Jeremy Saich 0-02, Ryan Jordan, Eoin Carey 0-03, Liam Óg Hegarty 1-09 (6-f), Noel McNamara 1-01, Jamie Sheehan 0-02, & Brian Sheehan 0-01. Substitutes used: William Condon, Michael Sheehan 0-01, Austin O’Hara, & Michael O’Callaghan (blood).
After a quick three-day turnaround, Kilworth secured another away victory, this time overcoming Aghabullogue in round four, which was played in Coachford last Friday evening, May 01st, with a minutes silence held beforehand for the late Paddy Whelan, R.I.P. In a contest that echoed the dramatic finish of their previous midweek outing, Kilworth got a dream start when Brian Sheehan found the net after just two minutes of play, and four fast minutes later Eoin Carey added another three pointer, this time from a long range free to open up a 5 point gap between the sides. After sixteen minutes of play Kilworth were firmly in control, leading by 2-08 to 0-03 and cruising with an 11-point advantage, however, Aghabullogue responded strongly hitting 1-05 before the break to claw back Kilworth’s lead. Half-time score, Kilworth 2-11, Aghabullogue 1-08.
Upon the resumption it was tit for tat exchanges between the sides until the green and white coloured side struck the net with twelve minutes remaining to narrow the gap to just 2 points, before drawing level at 2-17 apiece with just four minutes remaining. Jamie Sheehan edged Kilworth back in front with a superb point approaching the final minute, but it was Eoin Carey’s stoppage-time point from play that ultimately sealed the victory. Although Kilworth were put under sustained pressure for much of the second half, they once again showed tremendous resilience and finishing power to maintain their perfect record, making it four wins from four. Full time score: Kilworth 2-20, Aghabullogue 2-18.
Team and scorers: Killian Heggtveitt, Austin O’Hara, Kieran Lane, Michael Gowen, Sean Óg Kenneally, Luke Carey, David Twomey 0-01, Leo Coffey 0-01, Jeremy Saich 0-01, Jamie Sheehan 0-06, Eoin Carey 1-02 (1-1-f), Liam Óg Hegarty 0-07 (7-f), Noel McNamara, William Condon 0-01, & Brian Sheehan 1-00. Substitutes used: Gearoid Carey, Ryan Jordan, & Michael Sheehan 0-01.

PADDY WHELAN RIP
It was with great sadness last Sunday week that we learned of the extremely sad and untimely passing of our esteemed club Vice-President and true gentleman Paddy Whelan. Paddy was a much-valued member of our club, serving with distinction as Vice-President and formerly as club secretary, committee member, and mentor. He served as club secretary for a number of years in the early 1980’s, including the landmark year of 1980 when the Kilworth hurlers reached their third county final, as well as during the Centenary year of 1984. Paddy was also an invaluable contributor as a selector with many Kilworth teams, most notably with the successful 1985 junior football side that progressed to the clubs first football county final. At juvenile level, Paddy served a term as club chairperson and was also a representative to the North Cork board. Beyond the playing field, he captained the Kilworth Squash team, leading them to success at numerous tournaments, and also served as secretary of the Kilworth Sports Complex committee.
Paddy, affectionally known as the Judge, was an exceptionally knowledgeable man who took a genuine interest in all sports and was a lifelong, passionate supporter of both Kilworth and Cork GAA. His understanding extended far beyond the playing fields, he possessed a remarkable breadth of knowledge across a wide range of subjects, particularly local and national history, which he shared with enthusiasm and pride. A tremendous contributor to Scór na nÓg in his heyday, and an equally talented and gifted quizmaster, Paddy had a rare ability to engage, educate, and entertain in equal measure. It was always a pleasure to meet him, he was a true character whose conversations were enriched with wisdom, insight, and good humour. Above all else, Paddy was a devoted husband to Mary and a proud father to Liam, our current club player. His love for his family, his community, and his club was evident in all that he did, and his presence will be fondly remembered and deeply missed.
The large crowd that gathered for his removal in Fermoy, followed by his Requiem Mass in St. Martin’s Church, Kilworth, and his burial in Kilcrumper New Cemetery, was a true testament to the esteem and respect in which he was held. The red and white Kilworth GAA flag draped upon his coffin, along with the guard of honour formed by GAA members, both past and present, as the cortege made its way to his final resting place, served as a fitting tribute to a man who gave so much of himself to the club and community he loved.
Paddy left a lasting mark on everyone lucky enough to cross his path. He will be profoundly missed by all associated with the club, his wide circle of friends, and, most especially, his loving family. To his wife Mary, his son Liam, his daughter-in-law Dara, and his brother Dave together with the extended Whelan, McCarthy, and Glavin families we extend our deepest sympathies. May the sod lay lightly on your grave old friend. R.I.P.

Comrades in arms! Pictured in fine spirits, full of banter, and enjoying the celebrations at a Kilworth GAA social (circa 1990) are three proud Kilworth Gaels, (l-r) Paddy Whelan, Jimmy Hanlon, and Pad McCormack (all R.I.P.). Their camaraderie and commitment to club and community is fondly remembered as they are all now reunited above. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a n-anamacha dílse.

RECENT WEATHER DISRUPTS FIXTURES
Unfortunately, both of last week’s hurling league fixtures were postponed due to the recent spell of adverse weather. The junior hurling league third-round fixture against Araglen was called off as a result of a waterlogged pitch in Araglen, while the intermediate third-round clash with Ballyhea was also deferred after both clubs deemed their pitches unplayable.
Also, regrettably, this week’s junior hurling league fixture against Fermoy was postponed as a mark of respect following a local bereavement. These fixtures will now be rearranged for a later date.
