Kilworth GAA Club Notes 13 August 2026
U21 HURLERS BOOK PLACE IN NORTH CORK FINAL
Last Saturday evening, August 08th, Kilworth travelled to Ballyhooly to contest Kilshannig in the semi-final of the Country Clean Recycling U21 B North Cork Hurling Championship. In what proved to be a thrilling and hard-fought contest, Kilworth showed tremendous character and resilience to emerge with a deserved two-point victory and secure their place in the North Cork final. Playing with the aid of a strong breeze in the opening half, Kilworth settled well and made the most of the favorable conditions. Their sharp attacking play and intensity across the field helped build a commanding advantage on their opponents with goals from Aaron Browne and Conor Lynch proving crucial while center forward Liam Óg Hegarty kept the scoreboard ticking over from placed balls and open play. However, the game took a significant turn just before the interval when Kilworth were reduced to fourteen players, but despite this setback, they went into the break holding a healthy eight-point lead, 2-10 to 0-08, thanks to an impressive first-half display.
Kilshannig with the wind at their backs and an extra man on the field responded strongly after the restart as they gradually chipped away at Kilworth’s advantage and following a sustained period of pressure, they drew level with forty-five minutes played after overturning the entire eight-point deficit. With momentum now appeared to be with the western divisional side, Kilworth refused to buckle and whilst displaying determination, winning vital possession, and taking crucial scores, they dug deep and held firm under intense late pressure to secure a brilliant two-point victory. Full-time score; Kilworth 2-17, Kilshannig 0-21. Referee; Maurice Farrell, Newtownshandrum.
Kilworth will now meet Ballycastle Gaels in the final with the fixture details yet to be confirmed.
