Kilworth GAA Club Notes 02 July 2026

INTERMEDIATE HURLERS COME UP SHORT
Last Sunday morning, June 28th, Kilworth’s intermediate hurlers made the journey to Ballynoe to contest St. Catherines in their final group game of the Red FM sponsored Division 4 Hurling League. With qualification for the league final already secured, Kilworth approached this contest with confidence and delivered a strong first half performance with centre-forward Michael Sheehan setting the tone early by registering Kilworth’s first score of the contest from a sublime sideline cut. Kilworth continued to apply pressure and were duly rewarded on the 15-minute mark when Olann McCarthy-O’Donoghue found the back of the net, which pushed Kilworth into a four-point lead. Despite a competitive showing from their Imokilly rivals, Kilworth held firm and carried that four-point advantage into the break after an impressive opening 30 minutes of hurling. Half time score; Kilworth 1-14, St. Catherines 1-10.
Kilworth made a positive start to the second half, with Noel McNamara adding his third point from play to extend their lead, however, momentum soon shifted as St. Catherine’s upped their intensity and began to chip away at the deficit and by the three-quarter mark, the home side had reduced Kilworth’s lead to just a single point. Kilworth responded through important scores from Liam Óg Hegarty, Michael Sheehan, and Eoin Carey, with each score helping to keep Kilworth in contention as the game hung in the balance, and at the sixty-minute mark the sides shared the spoils at 1-24 apiece. However, it was St. Catherine’s who finished the strongest as two late points from the home side ultimately proved decisive as they edged ahead before the full-time whistle sounded. Despite a spirited performance, Kilworth were left to reflect on a narrow defeat in what was an entertaining and hard-fought contest. Full time score; Kilworth 1-24, St. Catherines 1-26. Referee; James Birmingham, Bride Rovers.
Next up on Saturday week Kilworth face old rivals Aghabullogue in the league final which throws in at Riverstown at 7pm. All support greatly appreciated.
