Kilworth GAA Club Notes 16 April 2026
FOOTBALLERS CONTINUE WINNING STREAK
Kilworth claimed their third victory in the Avondhu division three football league with an emphatic win over Abbey Rovers, finishing on a scoreline of 6-14 to 0-12. Holding a narrow lead of 2-08 to 0-08 at the interval, Kilworth turned on the style in the second half. Three goals in each half proved decisive, with Eoin Carey, Aaron Browne, Ryan Jordan, Olann McCarthy-O’Donoghue, Paddy Murphy, and Leo Coffey all finding the net to seal a comprehensive victory.
Team: Killian Heggtveit, Brian Dunne, David Twomey, Jamie Sheehan, Luke Carey, Denis O’Riordan, Ryan Jordan, Leo Coffey, Michael Sheehan, Eoin Carey, Liam Óg Hegarty, Aaron Brown, & Brian Sheehan. Substitutes: Anthony Sheehan, Olann McCarthy-O’Donoghue, Paddy Murphy, & Sean Murphy.
Kilworth junior footballers were also scheduled to face Killavullen in their fourth-round Avondhu Division 3 football league fixture last Sunday morning but received a walkover. They now have three remaining league fixtures against Buttevant, Glanworth, and Grange respectively.
NO JOY FOR JUNIOR HURLERS
Last Thursday evening, April 9th, Kilworth’s junior hurlers took on Shanballymore in their second-round fixture of the Avondhu division two hurling league, which was played in Killavullen. Facing a strong cross-field wind in the opening half, Kilworth produced several fine passages of hurling against Shanballymore’s first-string side. Despite their positive display, they trailed at half-time, with the scoreline reading Kilworth 0-08, Shanballymore 1-14.
To their credit, Kilworth battled gamely throughout the second half and matched their opponents score for score after the interval. However, despite their determined effort, the red and black coloured side remained in control and ran out comfortable winners when referee Denis Motherway sounded the final whistle. Full-time score: Kilworth 1-12, Shanballymore 1-21.
Team and scorers: Sean Keane, Kieran Twomey, John Horgan, Conor Hynes, Brian Dunne 0-01, Michael O’Callaghan 0-02 (2-f), Aaron Browne, Sean O’Flynn 0-03, Ryan Jordan 1-00, Michael Lenihan 0-01, Anthony Sheehan 0-01, Jason McCarthy, Darragh Sheehan 0-01, Brian Casey, & Olann McCarthy-O’Donoghue 0-03 (2-f). Substitutes used: Ronan Fenton, Evan Donnellan, Thomas Twomey, & Sean Murphy.
WELL DONE SEÁN
The club would like to extend its congratulations to Seán Riordan, who lined out at centre back for the Cork minor hurlers last Friday evening, April 10th.
