Kilworth GAA Club Notes 07 May 2026

INTERMEDIATE HURLERS MAKE IT FOUR FROM FOUR
Last Tuesday evening, April 28th, Kilworth’s intermediate hurlers travelled to Cloughduv for their third-round clash in the Red FM sponsored Division 4 Hurling League. The home side, donning green and gold, opening the scoring in what proved to be a high scoring encounter and held the advantage until the fifteen minute mark when Kilworth responded in style with wing forward Liam Óg Hegarty finding the net to bring the sides level. A closely contested ten minute spell followed with both teams trading scores before Kilworth edged ahead with two points from Liam Óg and Brian Sheehan respectively before the break. Half-time score: Kilworth 1-09, Cloughduv 0-10.
Kilworth carried their momentum into the second half, stretching their lead to three points early on and maintaining control for much of the next twenty minutes. However, a dramatic finale was to unfold as Cloughduv battled back into contention and drew level on the sixty-minute mark with their first goal of the evening. Kilworth, however, to their credit, showed great resilience when it mattered most and after a long-range free taken from Eoin Carey struck the post, Noel McNamara reacted quickest to bury the rebound into the net two minutes into stoppage time. A follow-up point from Jamie Sheehan then sealed the victory, giving Kilworth a deserving four-point win. While it may have been a slightly rusty performance, it was a vital outing to shake off the cobwebs after a lengthy break between games and a challenging past week for all involved. Full time score: Kilworth 2-19, Cloughduv 1-18.
Team and scorers: Killian Heggtveitt, Gearoid Carey, Kieran Lane, Michael Gowen, Sean Óg Kenneally, Luke Carey, David Twomey, Leo Coffey, Jeremy Saich 0-02, Ryan Jordan, Eoin Carey 0-03, Liam Óg Hegarty 1-09 (6-f), Noel McNamara 1-01, Jamie Sheehan 0-02, & Brian Sheehan 0-01. Substitutes used: William Condon, Michael Sheehan 0-01, Austin O’Hara, & Michael O’Callaghan (blood).
After a quick three-day turnaround, Kilworth secured another away victory, this time overcoming Aghabullogue in round four, which was played in Coachford last Friday evening, May 01st, with a minutes silence held beforehand for the late Paddy Whelan, R.I.P. In a contest that echoed the dramatic finish of their previous midweek outing, Kilworth got a dream start when Brian Sheehan found the net after just two minutes of play, and four fast minutes later Eoin Carey added another three pointer, this time from a long range free to open up a 5 point gap between the sides. After sixteen minutes of play Kilworth were firmly in control, leading by 2-08 to 0-03 and cruising with an 11-point advantage, however, Aghabullogue responded strongly hitting 1-05 before the break to claw back Kilworth’s lead. Half-time score, Kilworth 2-11, Aghabullogue 1-08.
Upon the resumption it was tit for tat exchanges between the sides until the green and white coloured side struck the net with twelve minutes remaining to narrow the gap to just 2 points, before drawing level at 2-17 apiece with just four minutes remaining. Jamie Sheehan edged Kilworth back in front with a superb point approaching the final minute, but it was Eoin Carey’s stoppage-time point from play that ultimately sealed the victory. Although Kilworth were put under sustained pressure for much of the second half, they once again showed tremendous resilience and finishing power to maintain their perfect record, making it four wins from four. Full time score: Kilworth 2-20, Aghabullogue 2-18.
