Kilworth GAA Club Notes 29 October 2026

JUNIOR FOOTBALLERS ADVANCE TO COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP
Last Friday night, October 23rd, our Junior footballers travelled to Ballyhooly to contest Mitchelstown in the Junior B1 V Junior B2 football playoff decider with the winner earning the honor of representing Avondhu in the County Junior B Football Championship. Great credit must go to Ballyhooly GAA, who had both the venue and playing surface presented in pristine condition for what proved to be an entertaining and highly competitive contest under the floodlights.
Competing in a competitive football fixture under lights for the first time in many years, Kilworth made a bright start despite facing a strong cross-field wind in the opening half as they showed plenty of attacking intent throughout the opening period. However, a number of missed scoring opportunities coupled with some costly frees conceded allowed Mitchelstown to remain firmly in contention as they capitalised on their chances and aided by a first-half goal, carried a four-point advantage into the break, leading by 1-07 to 0-06.
Emerging from the water break with renewed energy and determination, Kilworth immediately seized the initiative and produced an outstanding second-half display with their fitness, work rate, and intensity proved decisive as they gradually wrestled complete control of proceedings from their opponents. Goals from Eoin Carey, Brian Sheehan, and substitute Ryan Jordan proved decisive as Kilworth quickly put the game behind doubt and although the Cheesemakers managed to raise a late green flag during injury time the result was never in serious doubt thanks to a strong, determined second-half performance. Full-time score; Kilworth 3-16, Mitchelstown 2-07.
This victory now sees Kilworth advance to the County Junior Football Championship Quarter-Final, where they will face Duhallow champions Rockchapel tomorrow evening, Friday October 30th, in Mallow at 7.30pm.
