Kilworth GAA Club Notes 23 July 2026

WINNING CHAMPIONSHIP START FOR JUNIOR FOOTBALLERS
Last Friday evening, July 17th, Kilworth got their Avondhu Junior B1 Football Championship campaign off to the perfect start with an impressive nineteen-point victory over Ballyhea in Shanballymore. Credit must be given to the Shanballymore club, who had both the venue and playing surface presented in superb condition for this championship encounter. Fresh from securing the division 3 league title last month, Kilworth entered this Walsh’s Pharmacy Fermoy sponsored championship opener full of confidence and produced a strong, disciplined performance throughout. From the opening whistle, Kilworth quickly settled into their stride and led for the duration of the contest, with a team that combined both youthful energy and experienced leadership across the field.
In what proved to be a high-scoring encounter, Kilworth impressed with their work rate, teamwork, and attacking efficiency as they delivered a solid all-round display while moving the ball well and taking their scoring chances as they built up a commanding advantage on their opponents. Corner back Gearóid Carey, who enjoyed a remarkable evening in front of goal, finished with 1-3 from play whilst up front, corner-forward Olann McCarthy-O’Donoghue proved a constant threat as he helped himself to an excellent hat-trick of goals. Next up, Kilworth face Abbey Rovers in the second round which is currently fixed for two weeks’ time. Full-time score; Kilworth 5-17, Ballyhea 0-13.
Team: Killian Heggtveitt, Michael Gowen, Kieran Lane, Gearoid Carey, Pierce Riordan, Sean Shanahan, David Twomey, Sean Óg Kenneally, Ryan Jordan, Jamie Sheehan, Eoin McGrath, Michael Sheehan, Olann McCarthy-O’Donoghue, Brian Sheehan, & Mark Carey. Substitutes used: Sean Murphy, Ronan Fenton, Leo Coffey, Daniel O’Regan, & Brian Dunne.
