Kilworth GAA Club Notes 16 July 2026
SILVERWARE FOR INTERMEDIATE HURLERS
Last Saturday evening, July 11th, Kilworth’s intermediate hurlers claimed the Red FM sponsored Division 4 Hurling League title, following a deserved 2-25 to 1-19 victory over Aghabullogue at an immaculately presented Páirc Tadhg MacCárthaigh in Riverstown. Played in perfect conditions on a pristine pitch, this contest produced both an entertaining and high-scoring encounter between two evenly matched sides. Noel McNamara got Kilworth off the mark immediately from the throw-in and set the tone for what would prove to be an impressive team performance, with no fewer than ten Kilworth players contributing to the scoreboard over the hour. The opening half was a fiercely competitive affair, with little separating the teams throughout as scores were exchanged at regular intervals, and as the interval approached, Kilworth held on to a two-point advantage thanks to well-taken scores from across the field. Half-time score; Kilworth 0-13, Aghabullogue 0-11.
The Seanie McGrath coached Aghabullogue side emerged from the water break with renewed purpose and made an immediate impact. A well-taken goal helped them regain the initiative and move two points clear early in the second period, however, Kilworth refused to be rattled and responded impressively, digging deep to wrestle back control of proceedings. With fifteen minutes of play remaining, Kilworth raised their game significantly and effectively took over the contest by striking an impressive 2-10, with the goals arriving at crucial stages and by the final whistle, Kilworth had opened up a nine-point gap to become worthy winners of the league crown. William Condon produced one of the highlights of the evening with a superbly taken goal, while Jamie Sheehan’s second-half major effectively put the result beyond doubt. Supported by an influential bench, the Kilworth substitutes also proved particularly effective as they made a significant contribution to the scoreline with veteran Liam Whelan and Jeremy Saich accounting for five points between them. Full-time score; Kilworth 2-25, Aghabullogue 1-19.
This victory, which was a thoroughly convincing team display, characterised by hard work, and excellent scoring particularly during the closing stages, provided a welcome boost ahead of the championship campaign, with just over two weeks now remaining before Kilworth face Ballymartle in Rathcormac on Sunday, August 2nd. Credit must also be given to referee Colm Lyons from Nemo Rangers, who handled the game well ahead of his appointment as referee for next Sunday’s All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship Final.
