Kilworth GAA Club Notes 18 June 2026
INTERMEDIATE HURLERS CONTINUE UNBEATEN RUN
Kilworth’s intermediate hurlers maintained their unbeaten run last Thursday evening, June 11th, with a convincing win over Mallow at home in the Red FM sponsored Division 4 Hurling League. Entering this penultimate round clash significantly depleted, Kilworth, missing seven players through injury and unavailability, nonetheless delivered a strong and composed performance. Playing with the benefit of a strong breeze in the opening half, Kilworth initially played tit-for-tat hurling with their opponent’s in the opening quarter before they quickly established control. Their dominance was rewarded after sixteen minutes of play when goalkeeper Killian Heggtveit delivered a long clearance into the square, where Olann McCarthy-O’Donoghue reacted quickest to pull on the sliotar along the ground and find the back of the net helping Kilworth open up a two-point lead and set the tone for this contest. Kilworth continued to dictate proceedings throughout the remaining first half, combining accurate shooting with solid defensive work to limit Mallow’s opportunities and by the interval, they had built up a commanding seven-point advantage. Half time score; Kilworth 1-12, Mallow 0-08.
Mallow made a determined push upon the restart and were back within two points just six minutes into the second half following a well-taken goal, however, Kilworth responded in impressive fashion, settling back into their rhythm and reasserted control. Centre forward Michael Sheehan once again proved particularly influential, contributing heavily from both play and placed balls, while Kilworth’s work rate and discipline ensured they kept Mallow at arm’s length for the remainder of the game. Despite a spirited second-half display from the visitors, who registered nine points of their overall tally from placed balls, Kilworth’s consistency saw them pull away once more and at the full-time whistle, Kilworth were comfortable nine-point winners, with this victory also ending Mallow’s hopes of reaching the league final. Full time score; Kilworth 1-23, Mallow 1-14. Referee; Ciarán Murphy, Glanworth.
