Kilworth GAA Club Notes 04 June 2026

INTERMEDIATE HURLERS QUALIFY FOR LEAGUE FINAL
Last Friday evening, May 29th, Kilworth welcomed Kildorrery to Moorepark for their seventh-round clash in the Red FM sponsored Division 4 Hurling League. Kilworth got off to a strong start in what proved to be a high-scoring encounter, with a remarkable total of 45 scores in total registered. Michael Sheehan, who delivered a man-of-the-match performance with an outstanding tally of ten points from play, opened the scoring with a fine point after latching onto a well-timed pass from defender Kieran Lane. Just two minutes later, midfielder Jeremy Saich struck the game’s opening goal following an excellent team move, giving Kilworth a three-point advantage. By the quarter-hour mark, Kildorrery had narrowed the gap to just a single point, but Kilworth maintained control thanks to the accurate free-taking of Liam Óg Hegarty and Sheehan’s continued influence at centre-forward. Noel McNamara also added his initials to the scoresheet with two well-taken points, before goalkeeper Killian Heggtveit capped off the first half with a superb long-range placed ball that sailed between the uprights moments before the half time whistle sounded. Half time score; Kilworth 1-14, Kildorrery 1-07.
Upon the restart, Kildorrery immediately reduced Kilworth’s lead to five points with two well-struck placed balls. Kilworth, however, responded confidently, and quickly settled back into their rhythm with scores from Liam Óg Hegarty, Michael Sheehan, and Jamie Sheehan extending their advantage to nine points by the three-quarter mark. As the game entered the final quarter, Kilworth continued to assert their dominance, adding further points through Liam Óg and Jamie Sheehan, while centre-back Pierce Riordan also made his mark on the scoreboard. Although Kildorrery had the final say in this contest with a late score, Kilworth were comfortable and deserving winners, having effectively doubled their points tally in the second half. This result sees Kilworth maintain their unbeaten run this season, securing a place in the league final with two games still to play, as well as confirming promotion to Division 3 for next season. Full time score; Kilworth 1-28, Kildorrery 1-15. Referee; Denis Motherway, Ballygiblin.

POSITIVE FINISH TO JUNIOR HURLING LEAGUE CAMPAIGN
Last week, on Tuesday evening May 26th, our junior hurlers faced Fermoy at home in their final fixture of the Avondhu Division 2 Hurling League. In what proved to be an entertaining contest, Fermoy appeared the stronger side for much of the game, however, Kilworth showed great resilience to stay within striking distance of their near neighbours throughout. A crucial moment came just before half-time when corner forward Cormac Donnellan struck a 21-yard free which found the back of the net, giving Kilworth a narrow 1-09 to 0-11 lead at the break. With both sides relying heavily on placed balls for scores, Kilworth maintained their composure and remained firmly in contention as the game progressed. However, in a dramatic finish, Kilworth snatched victory in the closing minutes when substitute Rory Gill’s late effort took a fortunate bounce into the Fermoy net, securing an important two-point win and Division 2 league status for the 2027 season. Full time score; Kilworth 2-17, Fermoy 0-21. Referee; David Twomey, Shanballymore.
Team: Sean Keane, Gearoid Carey, Conor White, Kieran Twomey, Ronan Fenton, Sean Óg Kenneally, Sean Murphy, Michael O’Callaghan, Jason McCarthy, Mark Carey, Brian Tobin, Brian Casey, Anthony Sheehan, Thomas Twomey, & Cormac Donnellan.
