HURLERS OFF TO STRONG WINNING START

D2HL R1 Result – Kilworth 0-23, Youghal 1-07.

Last Sunday afternoon saw our intermediate hurlers open their 2019 league campaign at home to Youghal and after a strong Kilworth performance, we ran out worthy winners on the score line of 0-23 to 1-07. We made a strong start, leading 0-6 to 0-1 after the first quarter with Noel McNamara, Tom Twomey and Eoin Carey each getting their name on the score sheet. Kilworth continued to extend their lead through Noel McNamara and Will Condon also got in on the scoring action. A number of goal chances fell our way in the first half but the Youghal gaol keeper kept us at bay. We held the opposition to just three points in the opening half, all from frees and at the half time whistle we led 0-11 to 0-3. Our good run continued in the second half as we continued to extend our lead with Eoin Carey in flying form and at the end of the third quarter we had a healthy 13 point lead, 0-18 to 0-5. Will Condon slotted over a further two points to bring his tally to three for the day and substitutes Paddy Moakley and Ned O’Brien also popped over two well take points of their own. Youghal got a late consolation goal in the dying minutes but Kilworth always looked comfortable and in the end we registered a deserved win on the score line of 0-23 to 1-07. Well done to all involved on a great win and a great start to the season. Next up for Kilworth is Carrigtowhill away from home on next Sunday, March 3rd @ 2:00pm. Best of luck to all the players and management in this game and all support will be greatly appreciated in Carrigtwohil next Sunday afternoon. KilworthAbú!
