A Win and a Loss for Fé14s

Beara Prove too Strong in Premier 2 Football

Lining out without a number of our regulars due to injury and holidays, the Kilworth Araglen Óg Fé14 footballers were up against a strong Beara side in the first round of the Premier 2 Football championship which was played in Ballinora last Friday evening week. Beara, who had the benefit of the best players from their division, played some excellent football over the hour and despite our best efforts, they proved too strong and won well in the end on a score line of 4-18 to 4-03. We now revert to the Challenge Cup in which we will play Bishopstown in Bishopstown on Saturday next June 17th at 3.30 in Bishopstown.

Hurlers are far too Strong for St. Marks

The Kilworth Araglen Óg Fé14 hurlers travelled to Meelin last Friday evening to take on local team, St Mark’s, in the first round of the Premier 2 hurling championship. From the outset, Kilworth Araglen Óg laid down the marker and picked off some early points, a mixture from play and from frees. Within the first 15 minutes, we had three goals scored, and this set the tone for the remainder of the match. Our lads harried and hassled the opposition at every point, giving them little time on the ball.

The second half was a repeat of the first, with a balanced team approach throughout. In the end St Mark’s put up a very spirited effort to the very end but Kilworth Araglen Óg in truth had the game wrapped up well before the final whistle and ran out convincing winners. While this was a very positive performance from the team, the same level of effort and more will need to be repeated in the quarter final against our rivals Ballinora in the quarter final which is to be played in Araglen on Monday evening next at 7 o clock.

Team: James Kenneally, Ruairi McCallum, Jack Cotter, Paddy O’Brien, Harry O’Brien, Evan Gowen, Ciarán Crowley, Oran Hegarty, Sean Riordan, Luke Browne, Danny Kenneally, Killian Ball, Kuba Ciosmak, Conor Lynch, Bailey Browne, Subs (all used): Darragh Cooney, Eoin Toland, and Peter Sarsfield.

Fé13s travel to the Treaty

The Fé13 Kilworth Araglen Og panel are eagerly looking forward to kicking off their season in early July and had a challenge game against Ballygiblin in Kilworth 2 weeks ago.  With a number of the u14 squad away this week, the u13s headed for Limerick last night for a challenge game against Garryspillane in Knocklong.

Fé12s Host Erins Own

The Kilworth Araglen Og Fé12s are between phases of the league at the minute, but they are far from resting on their early season performances. Last week they welcomed Imokilly side Erins Own to Kilworth for a very lively challenge game. The home side were down a few regulars on the night and tried a number of players in new positions in what was a very worthwhile exercise. They also had a game with Midleton in Midleton last night.

Big Weekend of Go Games Action

A hectic morning of Go Games action again on Saturday morning last as the u8s, 9s, 10s and 11s were all in action in different venues.

Fé8 Hurling

The u8s were first in action as they made the trip to Youghal with 3 hurling teams for a 9am start in the east region Monster Blitz. The boys acquitted themselves very well in games against teams from Watergrasshill, Youghal, Killeagh, Kiltha Óg, Fr O Neills, Castlelyons and Lisgoold. Well done to the coaches who again split the teams as evenly as possible and ensured that all the boys had equal playing time.

Fé9 Hurling

The u9s also made the journey to east Cork on Saturday morning for a 9:45 start against Killeagh. 18 players were divided into 3 teams who played 3 matches each against the locals. Is what was a very close and competitive mornings hurling, some outstanding tackling, blocking and hooking in particular was on show and the mentors on both sides were thrilled with the efforts of their charges. These boys are making great strides this year and the efforts in training are becoming very evident as they play more games. Keep up the practice in training and particularly at home boys.

Fé10 Hurling

Well done to the Fé10 boys who travelled to Killavullen on Saturday morning for their most recent Go Games fixture. Despite being down a number of players for various reasons, the boys battled hard throughout and never gave up against a strong Killavullen side. These boys have also been working hard in training and it was great to see them step up despite being without so many on the day

Fé11 Hurling

Kilworth Araglen Og Fé11s were invited to Bishopstown on Saturday morning last for a hurling blitz with Bishopstown and Carrigtwohill. End to end excitement ensued across some very competitive games, and a great performance on the day from both Kilworth Araglen Óg teams. Well done to all and sincere thanks to Bishopstown for the invitation and the travelling support who braved the wet conditions to get behind the lads on the day.

Munster & All Ireland U20 Cups in Scoil Mháirtín

Go raibh míle maith agat to the members of the victorious Cork U20 hurling panel and management who made the trip to Scoil Mháirtín on Monday last. There was great excitement as selector Ronan Curran along with players Mark Howell, William Buckley, Ben Cunningham, Ross O Sullivan and Brion Saunderson showed the Munster & All Ireland Cups to the boys and girls. Indeed, a number of the pupils had been in Thurles on last Sunday week to see the rebels win their 14th title and their 3rd in the last 4 years. Mr. Young who teaches in Scoil Mháirtín, is a member of the u20s backroom team and does a huge amount, along with the other teachers in the school, to promote Gaelic Games.
