FOOTBALLERS BOOK THEIR PLACE IN SEMI FINAL

JAFC R2 – Kilworth 2.12 Ballyhooly 1.10

On Sunday 6th September our junior footballers made the short trip to Glanworth to take on Ballyhooly in the final game of this year’s round robin championship.  The ball was thrown in and Kilworth played with the aid of the breeze behind them. Ballyhooly pointed the first two scores of the match. Leo Coffey opened the scoring tally for Kilworth with a good point from play. After one point from Ballyhooly, Kilworth went on to score the next four points with Nathan Byrne, Paddy Moakley, Leo Coffey and Michael Sheehan getting their names on the score sheet. The opening quarter of the match was tight scoring and saw Kilworth lead by a point on a scoreline of 5 points to 4. The next stage of the match was tit for tat between Ballyhooly and Kilworth’s corner forward Brian Sheehan scoring both a free and a point from play. Full forward Will Condon got himself in on the action with a point and a goal before half time. Kilworth were leading by 5 points at the interval. Half time score: 1.8 to 6 points.  Kilworth displayed great football with 7 of their 8 points coming from play in this opening half. Kilworth’s delivery of the ball was impressive with good movement and options into space shown from the forwards.

Ballyhooly came out in the second half looking to reduce the gap between the sides. They were successful in their efforts scoring a goal and 2 points on the trot preventing Kilworth from scoring until 10 minutes into the second half. All was square until Brian Sheehan converted a free which was won by Paddy Moakley. It was back and forth between the sides and points from Paddy Moakley and a Brian Sheehan free put Kilworth in a two point lead with 15 minutes to go. Ballyhooly managed one more point for the remainder of the game due to good defending. Brian Sheehan’s 4th and final free gave Kilworth a two point lead. Brian Sheehan then struck goal to secure Kilworth a place in the Semi finals of the championship. It was a tough game which was ultimately decided by our second goal which gave us a bit of breathing space. Well done to all involved on this win. Kilworth will now face Charleville in the Semi Final.  Best of luck let’s hope we continue this winning streak to see us compete in a final!
