HURLERS CONTINUE WINNING WAYS
Last Friday evening, May 2nd, our Premier Intermediate hurlers were once again back in action when they welcomed Seandún divisional side Bishopstown to the club grounds for the fifth round clash of the Red FM sponsored Division 4 Hurling League. Played in the second pitch, which was once again in great nick, a large crowd of supporters gathered to witness this encounter and were served up a fine spectacle of hurling from the Kilworth contingent.
Kilworth hit the ground running in this high scoring clash getting their first score of the evening within 90 seconds of play and after 15 minutes looked extremely comfortable with an eight point cushion in their favor. After some great movement out the field from center back David Twomey and William Condon, Noel McNamara set the tone of intent for the evening when he was at the dispensing end of Kilworth’s first green flag after just 4 minutes played. Kilworth continued to excel and including a screamer of a goal from Jeremy Saich just before the interval they entered the water break with a twelve point advantage over their opponents with the scores coming from the camán’s of eight different Mike Walsh Pharmacy sponsored red and white jerseys. Half time score: Kilworth 2-12, Bishopstown 0-06.
Bishopstown to their credit rallied for the latter half of this contest and added their third score of the evening from play after 33 minutes played which was all down to some fine solid Kilworth defending led from veteran full back Kieran Lane. The third quarter was all about Kilworth’s two Liam’s, as between the accurate striking of Liam Whelan and Liam Óg Hegarty they kept the umpires busy waving a total of nine white flags. However, the maroon and white coloured side kept plugging away and eventually got their reward on the 50th minute with a nicely taken three pointer. This didn’t deter the home side as they saw out the remaining minutes with full forward Noely adding a further four points to his overall tally before Shanballymore referee Dave Twomey blew the final whistle. Full time score: Kilworth 2-25, Bishopstown 1-14.
There were some fine individual performances throughout the contest from the men in red and including some very solid defending and movements on the field Kilworth were worthy winners after 60 minutes played. Up next, Kilworth will look to add more points to the board as they face Premier Junior seeded outfit Tracton in the sixth round which takes place on Saturday evening May 17th at Minane Bridge.
