FOOTBALLERS CRASH OUT OF COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP

Cork County Junior ‘A’ Football Championship R1 – Kilworth 1-08, St. Michaels 7-13 on Wednesday October 23rd 2019.

Last Wednesday week, Kilworth travelled to Mourneabbey to take on St. Michaels in the opening round of the Cork County Junior ‘A’ Football Championship. On the night we suffered a heavy defeat but missing six players from the North Cork Final team, it was always going to be a big ask to come out on top in this one. Only six points separated the sides at half time and it could easily have been level had we converted our two early goal chances. In the second half, we fell away and St. Michaels took over to win comprehensively in the end. On behalf of the club we would like to sincerely thank the management team of Pat O’Brien, Maurice McNamara, Brian Tobin and Mark O’Connor for taking on this team and for the great work and effort they put in this year. We had a fantastic run in the North Cork football championship defeating Buttevant, Charleville and Fermoy comprehensively on the way to the final. And in the final we were defeated by a very strong Kilshannig team who are highly likely to go on and win the County championship. Following the defeat in the football final and then the premier intermediate hurling final, it was great to see us put a team out and fulfil the St. Michaels fixture. It wasn’t easy after the recent disappointments but the lads still went out there and represented the club as best they could. We are not bad footballers and if we keep trying and doing our best, that first North Cork title can’t be too far away. We hope to see the management team and the players return in 2020 to give it another crack!

CONGRATULATIONS

Congratulations to Kilworth players Luke Carey and Roan O’Riordan on being part of the St. Colman’s College team who won the Dean Ryan Cup Final last week, defeating Árd Scoil Rís. Well done lads!

We would also like to congratulate William Blackburn and Audrey Heskin on the birth of their new twin boys, Philip and Jack, last week. We hope you are all doing well and enjoying the time with your new arrivals.

VOTES OF SYMPATHY

On behalf of the club we would like to express votes of sympathy to the O’Flynn family Glanworth, the Bane family Fermoy, the Quirke family Glanworth and the O’Connell family Ballyhooley following their recent bereavements.
