FOOTBALLERS CRUISE PAST GLANWORTH TO REACH SEMIS 2017-07-13 15:51:00

JAFC QF – Kilworth 3-14 Glanworth 0-06

Our footballers recorded a comprehensive win over Glanworth on Saturday afternoon last in the quarter-final of the junior ‘A’ football championship where they ran out deserving winners on the final score line of 3-14 to 0-06 and in truth they could have won by a lot more. Kilworth were three points to the good in the early stages with points from George Heskin, Jason McCarthy and Paddy Moakley. Glanworth got on the score board in the 14th minute but Kilworth continued to dominate and further points from Paddy Moakely, Brian Sheehan and Jason McCarthy had us 0-6 to 0-1 ahead after 21 minutes of play. Glanworth responded with two points to reduce the gap to 3, making it 0-6 to 0-3 in the 26th minute. George Heskin got his second point of the game in the closing stages of the first half followed by a pointed free from Brian Sheehan to leave five between the sides at half time, 0-8 to 0-3.

Kilworth were awarded a penalty at the start of the second half and George Heskin made no mistake putting it past the Glanworth goal keeper for the first goal of the game. The opposition responded with a well worked point but Liam Whelan stepped up to cancel it out with a point of his own. Kilworth dominated the remainder of the half and they continued to drive forward causing trouble for the Glanworth full-back line and they eventually forced a second penalty which George Heskin converted to make it 2-13 to 0-5 after 20 minutes. James McCarthy was dominating mid-field and he set up George Heskin for his third goal of the game late on before he tapped over a late point himself and Kilworth ran out deserving winners on the final score line of 3-14 to 0-6. Well done to all the players and management involved on a fine performance and we wish you all the very best of luck in the championship and league semi-finals which are both against Kilavullen in the coming weeks.
