GOOD ATTENDANCE AT SUCCESSFUL AGM

Our Club AGM was held last Wednesday night (December 1st) in the Parish Hall before a fine attendance. Outgoing chairman Liam Kenny opened the meeting and welcomed everyone present before inviting Canon Leahy to recite a prayer for all deceased members. Secretary Labhras Flynn then read the minutes of last year’s AGM, and this was followed by a very detailed and well-presented secretary’s report that provided a very accurate and comprehensive account of all the clubs activities during 2021. The report covered; Covid 19, all playing activities, team management updates, players fundraising, Juvenile, Camogie and Ladies football, Sports Complex/gym, Handball, School (thanks for hall and car park), Rebels Bounty, Club Lotto, Club Golf Classic, jersey washing, club grounds maintenance and development, club referee, executive committee, officers and sponsors. Labhras thanked all those involved in the above-mentioned various aspects of club activity and concluded by thanking fellow officers at the top table, Liam and Mossie for their help and support and by wishing everybody associated with Kilworth GAA a happy Christmas and a prosperous New year.

This was a very detailed and excellent report, which provided a first-class synopsis of the club’s activities over the past 12 months. Labhras has had two very trying years as runai with the emergence of Covid and is to be congratulated in the seamless way he goes about his business in the administration of the club.

Treasurer Mossie McNamara then presented a very thorough and detailed report that provided an excellent insight into the club’s income and expenditure for the year and the state of the club’s finances which are in a healthy position. The importance of our club lotto, Rebels Bounty Draw and our annual Golf classic was plain to be seen from the figures presented to those in attendance and Mossie thanked the co coordinators and sub committees involved in each of these fundraising initiatives.

Both the secretary and treasurers report were unanimously adopted.

Outgoing Chairman Liam Kenny then addressed the meeting. He reiterated the volunteer ethos which is the cornerstone of the association and thanked all those who give of their time freely in the various aspects of running the club.  Liam echoed a lot of what was covered in the runai’s report. In a difficult year again due to Covid, he referred to the club’s strict adherence to the guidelines as provided by the Government and the GAA and his pride in this. His highlight of the year was that we had no incident of note, no serious illness or no deaths in the club or the parish and this was something to be very thankful for.  On the playing front capturing the North Cork Junior Football championship for the first time in the club’s history was the highlight. 

He thanked all players and management of our teams for their time, effort, and dedication during the season. He congratulated the Juvenile club, and Kilara Og on a successful 2021. He urged that all members get behind the decision made recently on the future structures for Kilworth Juvenile GAA club.

Liam congratulated the Camogie club and the newly formed Ladies Football Club on their achievements during 2021. He congratulated Eoin Carey who won an U20 All Ireland hurling medal during 2021 and John Horgan who won the over 35B All Ireland handball championship recently. 

The generosity of all our club sponsors over the year was acknowledged. Liam thanked all those involved with the running of the club lotto, the Rebels Bounty draw, and our annual golf classic. He thanked all those who helped with maintaining our club grounds throughout the year. He expressed his wish that the club development project will get back on track in 2022.

He thanked all other club officers for their work and commitment during the year with special mention for Labhras and Mossie as his top table comrades. Liam concluded by advising he was not seeking re-election, having been directly involved for the past ten years as vice chairman, secretary, joint- secretary and chairman on two occasions. Liam offered to serve as vice chair for the coming year to support the incoming chairman if that was the wish of the meeting.

Patsy O’Mahony then addressed the gathering. He thanked Liam and wished him the best for the future. He thanked all those who supported the Rebels Bounty draw and asked for a big push again for 2022. He congratulated the Kilara Og U15 hurlers on their county success and also Eoin Carey and John Horgan on their All-Ireland success in 2021. He congratulated the Camogie and Ladies football clubs and congratulated our history making junior footballers. He also thanked Tom Howard and all these who help to maintain our club grounds. Patsy then presided over the election of officers which resulted as follows:

Incoming Chairman John Heggtveit then addressed the meeting saying it was an honor to be elected chairman of the club. He thanked outgoing chairman Liam Kenny for his great work and support over the years and wished all elected officers the best for 2022.

There were no motions on the night. Chairman then closed the meeting by thanking all those who attended and wished all teams and mentors the very best of luck for the season ahead.

On my own behalf I would like to thank outgoing chairman Liam Kenny for his work and support over the last number of years. I worked closely with Liam as club secretary during Liam’s first term as chairman and saw first-hand the amount of time, effort, and dedication he brought to the role. He always put his heart and soul into whatever position he held within the club, all for the benefit and betterment of Kilworth GAA. A true clubman, I wish him well for the future. 

I would like to wish incoming chairman John Heggtveit all the best for the coming year. Another great club worker John was our Covid officer over the past two years and having witnessed the professionalism and commitment displayed in administering and overseeing that very important function the club is in safe hands going forward.

Membership for 2022 will once again be administered though ‘Foireann’ the GAA’s online system for club membership. The system is not up and running yet for 2022. Once it is we will communicate it through our weekly notes in the Avondhu and our various social media platforms and we would ask that you pay your membership as soon as possible once the site is active.

PLAYERS VIRTUAL FUN RUN/WALK

Our players annual 5K fun run/walk fundraiser will take place virtually again this year, over the Christmas period between the dates of Sunday December 26th and Monday January 3rd. More details will follow in the coming weeks.

There was no winner of this week’s lotto jackpot of €14,200 held on Monday December 6th. The numbers drawn were: 12, 14, 24 and 29. The lucky dip winner of €50 was Tony Sheehan c/o Yearly.
