FOOTBALLERS PROGRESS TO SEMI FINAL

KILWORTH 5-19 LISCARROLL/CHURCHTOWN GAELS 0-5

Our Junior footballers overwhelmed Liscarroll/Churchtown Gaels in this Synergy Fermoy Credit Union North Cork JAFC Group 1, Round 3 game played at Doneraile last Sunday afternoon. Following a draw with Charleville and victory against Fermoy, a win would have guaranteed a quarter final spot at least. However, due to the facile nature of the triumph Kilworth topped the group thus progressing straight to the semi- final along with Ballyhooly who topped Group 2. On a wet and windy autumnal day underfoot conditions were slippery, luckily it remained dry overhead for most of the hour. The score tells its own story, with the lads dominating early moving the ball well with some excellent passing. Paddy Moakley opened the scoring, and five points were on the board before Will Condon netted the first of his three goals after eight minutes. Eoin Carey added a second green flag in the fifteenth minutes as Kilworth raced into a comfortable 2-7 to 0-1 lead at the first water break. Five pointed frees from Brian Sheehan in the second quarter left it 2-12 to 0-2 at half time.

There was no let up on the resumption with a Mike Sheehan point followed by Will Condon’s second goal, both scores within ninety seconds of the restart. Two further goals within a minute of each other from Will Condon and Brian Sheehan left it 5-14 to 0-2 after thirty-five minutes. Points from substitutes Noel McNamara and Dean Jordan and a point apiece from Kieran Lane and Dave Twomey up from defence extended the lead, 5-18 to 0-3 by the three-quarter stage. Dean Jordan with a point from a free either side of two Liscarroll/Churchtown Gales late scores, rounded off Kilworth’s tally.

This was a great performance and win, once Kilworth got on top they drove on and built up a big lead that means  bypassing a quarter final tie next weekend and proceeding straight to a semi-final clash which is pencilled in for Saturday October 16th. Our opponents will be known at the weekend following the quarter final games.
