HURLERS PROGRESS TO FINAL THIS FRIDAY NIGHT! 2019-08-21 14:40:00

JBHC Semi-final Result: Kilworth 0-18 Mallow 1-10 on Tuesday August 20th in Doneraile

Our junior hurlers secured their place in this year’s junior ‘B2’ hurling championship final after an excellent five point win over Mallow on Tuesday night last in Doneraile. The game had a 7:30pm throw-in and it was Mallow who had the stronger start leading 0-4 to 0-1 after seven minutes with Kilworth slow out of the blocks. Our lads soon found their stride however and they had the game back on level terms at the end of the opening quarter at 0-4 a-piece with Jeremy Saich, Sean Keane and Aidan Condon all registering points for Kilworth. The game’s only goal came in the 17th minute when Mallow broke inside the Kilworth defence to put the ball past keeper Brian Casey, giving the opposition a three point lead. That goal could have been quickly cancelled out a minute later when Aidan Condon struck an excellent shot, aiming for the top corner of the net but it just skimmed over the crossbar for a point instead. Again Kilworth showed great resilience to come back and at the break we only trailed by one, 1-7 to 0-9.

The second half resumed and the sides were level at 1-8 to 0-11 when Mallow were reduced to 14 men in the 40th minute for a second yellow card offence. A free from Daniel O’Regan and another point from Aidan Condon put us two points clear with ten minutes remaining on the clock, 1-8 to 0-13. Although Mallow put up a good fight, it was Kilworth who finished the strongest with the defence holding firm and upfront we had four excellent points from Sean Keane and a long range free from Shane O’Brien to seal the victory on the score line of 1-10 to 0-18. It’s now on to the final we go and it’s fantastic to have another final to look forward to alongside the junior ‘A’ football final in a few weeks’ time. On behalf of the club we would like to congratulate the management of Kieran Sheedy, Noel O’Brien and Labhrás Flynn along with the panel of players on a great win and we wish you the very best of luck in the final on Friday night. Kilworth Abú!
